My Thoughts on Taylor Swift’s “evermore” πŸ‚

Hello world!

How have you all been. I’ve been good, I’ve taken the second dose of the vaccine a few days ago, and my shoulder is completely numb. But I’m good! I also lowkey realized that my blog basically became a baking blog or something, so expect some random stories and stuff, I really missed writing those type of blogs! But anyways. Taylor Swift’s 9th studio album, evermore, came out more then a month ago. When it came out I wrote a blog of my first impression of it, and in that blog I said that in one month I’d write my thoughts on it after listening to it more thoroughly. And here it is! Let me know what you think about the album, and if you agree with my opinions of it.

willow

willow is the first track on the album. When I first heard it, and I wasn’t too familiar with the album, it used to be one of my favorites. Now? not so much. It’s good, I love it and know it by heart and would die to be able to scream the words in a concert some day, but I feel like I’ve heard it way too many times on all kinds of different apps that it’s just not my favorite. It’s usually what happens to singles from all albums, but it didn’t happened to me with cardigan, the single from her 8th studio album, folklore. To conclude, love it, but isn’t my favorite. My favorite line from the song is “wreck my plans, that’s my man”.

champagne problems

OMG LOVE LOVE LOVE. From the very beginning this one was a favorite, but it just keep getting better and better. I love this song so much, and even though it’s lyrically sad, for some reason I keep finding myself screaming and singing this song incredibly loudly in front of my mirror(ball). I love it! So so much. There’s nothing else to add except for that lmao. My favorite line from the song is the entire bridge, which is amazing, but especially the part where she says “what a shame she’s fucked in the head”. Obviously.

gold rush

This song is so incredible, and again, just like champagne problems, it just keeps getting better. It’s so satisfying for some reason? Like I feel like it’s the perfect song to ice skate to or to dance to. It’s just so nice! I love it. My favorite part is when she says “with your hair falling into place like dominos”.

’tis the damn season

When I first heard ’tis the damn season I wasn’t sure that I really liked it, I thought that it was okay-ish. But now I really like it! The more I listen to it, the better it gets. I definitely need to keep on playing it in order to get used to it πŸ™‚ My favorite lines are “but if it’s okay with you, it’s okay with me” and “but if it’s all the same to you, it’s the same to me”.

tolerate it

This is track number five, therefore it’s quite emotional and deep. I love tolerate it, but it’s also a “skip” for me in a way. Even though I love the music and the lyrics, it’s sometimes a bit heavy if you know what I mean. I think that this is a really relatable song, and in a way, we all have someone who “tolerates” us. Someone who doesn’t give us the same love and energy we give them. So, even though this song is so freaking beautiful, I often skip it when listening to the album as it’s really emotional and deep. My favorite lines from this song are “use my best colors for your portrait”, “I know my love should be celebrated… but you tolerate it” and “If it’s all in my head, tell me now”.

no body, no crime (feat. HAIM)

OH MY GOSH I LOVE THIS SONG. From the very first time that I heard it, and until today, I still feel the same- this song is freaking incredible. I love true crime, I love Taylor Swift… This is definitely a win for me! I really love HAIM’s voices as well, they’re so talented. I love listening to this song, and when I do I feel like a badass. My favorite part is the whole song, but if I had to choose just a few lines they’ll be: “that ain’t my Merlot on his mouth, that ain’t my jewelry on our joint account”, “she was with me, dude”, “good thing his mistress took out a big life insurance policy”, and “they think she did it, but they just can’t prove it, she thinks I did it, but she just can’t prove it”.

happiness

This song is another kind of a skip for me… Unlike tolerate it, I just don’t feel too connected or feel like I relate to this song too much. So it just became a sad song, one that I can’t relate to. So I usually skip it (still though I know it by heart and all lmao). My favorite lines are: “honey, when I’m above the trees, I see this for what it is”, “tell me, when did your winning smile begin to look like a smirk?”, and “all you want from me now is the green light of forgiveness… You haven’t met the new me yet, and I think she’ll give you that”.

dorothea

HEY HEY DOROTHEA lol I love this song so much! I remember not 100% understanding this song at first, but honestly I don’t think that I’ll ever fully understand any song. However, I love this song quite a lot, and feel like I could be a good friend of the speaker and their lover. I love the lyrics as well as the music and sounds, and it all really is quite magical in my opinion. It also reminds me of myself and my friend, for some reason. My favorite lines are: “and I got nothing but well wishes for ya”, “the stars in your eyes shined brighter in Tupelo”, “you’rΠ΅ a queen sellin’ dreams, sellin’ makeup and magazines, from you, I’d buy anything” and “but are you still the same soul I met under the bleachers? Well, I guess I’ll never know, and you’ll go on with the show”.

coney island (feat. The National)

Okay okay hear me out… I actually don’t love this song, and for a long time I used to always skip it and quite disliked it. HOWEVER, the more that I actually listen to it, the better it gets? I’m slowly learning to like and appreciate this song. I currently still don’t have favorite lines, as I truly used to skip this one lmao.

ivy

I never skipped this one, but it’s quite far near the end so I didn’t get to hear it as much when listening to the whole album- I never reached that far into the album. However I love it a lot and try my hardest to listen to it more and more. I like the music and lyrics quite a lot though! πŸ™‚ My favorite lines from this song are “oh, goddamn”, “my pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand, taking mine, but it’s been promised to another”, and “it’s the goddamn fight of my life, and you started it”.

cowboy like me

Oh my god I love this song so much ahhh it reminds me of Jess Mariano from Gilmore Girls. It’s so good!! I feel super ~mysterious~ while listening to it. I love the lyrics so much as well as the music and Taylor’s voice in this one. My favorite lines are: “and you asked me to dance but I said, “Dancin’ is a dangerous game””, “I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve”, “you had some tricks up your sleeve”, “now you hang from my lips like the Gardens of Babylon, with your boots beneath my bed, forever is the sweetest con “. (I just looked up what “Gardens of Babylon” meant… guess who’s tearing up in the middle of her biology class).

long story short

wowow love this song so much! Like I said last time, at first I thought that this was another song from August’s point of view, but it probably isn’t. Either way, I get Lover/reputation vibes from this song! It’s super fun and happy and I truly love it. I find this song quite loud, yet soft in a way. ANYWAYS here are my favorite lines: “actually, I always felt I must look better in the rear view”, “and we live in peace, but if someone comes at us, this time, I’m ready”, “no more keepin’ score, now I just keep you warm”, “past me, I wanna tell you not to get lost in these petty things”, “and he feels like home, if the shoe fits, walk in it everywhere you go” and lastly, “long story short, I survived”.

marjorie

This is such a sad song. In her eighth studio album, folklore, the 13th track is about Taylor’s grandfather. So in evermore, Taylor decided to dedicate her 13th track to her grandmother, Marjorie. This song is super sad, and hits hard. I honestly sometimes skip it as well, just because of how sad it is. My favorite part is when Taylor says “and if I didn’t know better, I’d think you were singing to me now” and then you can hear old recording of Taylor’s grandmother singing (she used to be on opera singer). This is super sad, and touching. This song gives me the chills every single time I listen to it. I would love it if Taylor Nation would restock the evermore vinyl on her store, because this would probably be the most emotional song to here played on a record player.

closure

When I first heard closure I used to laugh, because at the beginning it sounds like Taylor is playing around in her kitchen, making the sounds with her pots and pans. However, I’m a dedicated swiftie and I listened to it over and over and over again until I got used to it. Now I actually love it, and appreciate it for what it is! Yes, this obviously isn’t my favorite song, but it’s not bad. I like it πŸ™‚ My favorite lines from the songs are: “yes, I got your letter, yes, I’m doing better”, and “I’m fine with my spite, and my tears, and my beers and my candles”.

evermore (feat. Bon Iver)

Since this is the last song, I rarely get to hear it when I’m listening to the whole album. And honestly I’m not sure what I think of this one. I like it, but not a lot. I mean, after loving exile to death, I expected something a bit different knowing Taylor and Bon Iver’s voice dynamic. I’m still getting used to hearing Taylor singing the lower part, and Bon Iver singing the higher! It’s a great song though, and overall I really like it. My favorite lines from the song are: “I rewind thΠ΅ tape, but all it does is pause” and “gray November, I’ve been down since July”.

Other than that, Taylor also recently released the deluxe version, which has to bonus tracks on it. I still don’t know the tracks well enough in order to give an opinion on it, so I guess that I’ll wait with that! Hope that that’s okay with you πŸ™‚

But yeah, other than that I’m finished! I hope that you enjoyed reading my blog. Thank you for choosing to do so! I really appreciate that. Love you always, take a good care of your physical and mental health. Don’t forget to drink tons of water! See you next time.

Evermore- My First Impression πŸŒ±

Hello world, and welcome to blogmas day eleven!

How are you all? Let me start off by saying sorry for not keeping up with blogmas- I literally had the most stressful week ever. However, I’m back now, and I think that I’ll be posting the days the I’ve missed anyway, just late. I had so many great ideas for blogmas, and I even started writing some of them. It’ll be a shame to let that all go to waste πŸ™‚ anyways, two days ago Taylor freaking Swift announced that her 9th studio album, “evermore”, would be out soon. WTH?? I think that I made it quite clear that I am a swiftie, so hearing that was insane to me! You can probably guess how excited I was.

Last time, when “folklore” came out, I live twitted my thoughts on the album. It was probably the best thing I could’ve done, as it was really cool going back and reading my first thoughts on the album. For example, I didn’t say too much about “august”, which ended up being my favorite song. It’s funny seeing my first impression of it. So I decided that today’s blogmas would be my first impression of the tracks of “evermore”! Then in a month or so I will post another blog, reacting and updating this one. I thought that I could be fun, so hopefully you will enjoy this as much ❀ But well, here we go! If you’re also a fan of taylor’s work, let me know your thoughts on the album in the comments below.

willow

Okay so first of all the music video is insanely good? Dude I literally teared up, I love how she kept the “folklore” vibe and references. The “invisible string” made me so happy, and I absolutely love how magical everything is. 10/10 no doubt. The music- holy cow.. she did it again. I really like the lyrics, and the music is so magical and mysterious. I read on twitter that someone said that this song kinda reminded them of “I think he know“, and I totally agree! I also love how she went from “is it cool that I said all that” to “that’s my man”. Definitely loved this one <33 My favorite lines from the song at the moment are “show me the places where the others gave you scars” and “I’m like the water when your ship rolled in that night, rough on the surface, but you cut through like a knife”.

champagne problems

AHHH I think that so far this one is one of my favorite. I love the happy piano, along with the sad lyrics. I also read online that this song is about someone with mental illness, who had trouble committing to a marriage. That’s so sad! But any who, I don’t even know if that’s true- I just simply love the song. At first I thought that Taylor broke up with her boyfriend lmao but nah. So yes, I love this song so much. My favorite lines from the song at the moment are “”this dorm was once a madhouse” I made a joke, “Well, it’s made for me””, “she would’ve made such a lovely bride, what a shame she’s fucked in the head” and “you won’t remember all my champagne problems”.

gold rush

I like “gold rush” as well, but it ain’t my favorite. I love how she says the word “folklore” in it, and I love the lyrics ’cause they’re incredible as always. I feel like this song would be a good one to clean my room and do my chores to? Just because it has a good beat, but also it’s soft so it won’t distract me from my work. My favorite lines from the song at the moment are “I don’t like that falling feels like flying ’til the bone crush” and “my mind turns your life into folklore”.

’tis the damn season

So I haven’t listened to this enough to say that this is my favorite song or anything, but I do think that it’s quite cool. I love the title, especially considering the fact that this song came out during December. The lyrics also hit close to home, and now listening and hearing them is kind of making me sad in a good way lol. This song for some reason reminds me of “illicit affairs“, maybe because of the lyrics and the vibe. I need to listen to this more before I can have more of an opinion on the song πŸ™‚ My favorite lyrics from the song at the moment are “and wonder about the only soul who can tell which smiles I’m fakin'”, “the heart I know I’m breakin’ is my own” and “to leave the warmest bed I’ve ever known”.

tolerate it

I actually only listen to this song about one or two times, so I don’t have much of an opinion on it yet. I know that since it’s track number five, it means a lot to Taylor and it’s quite emotional. And well after going over the lyrics again, it really is! I love the lyrics so much, but I’ll have to listen to it some more before I can fully express my love to it. My favorite lines from this songs are “I notice everything you do or don’t do”, “use my best colors for your portrait”, “I know my love should be celebrated” and lastly “I sit and watch you”.

no body, no crime

THIS SONG IS SO GOOD I CANNOT STRESS IT ENOUGH. I love true crime and I listen to so many podcasts about it daily. So I was super excited when I heard the song. I love the storyline, the lyrics, the music, the vibe, the background vocals, EVERYTHING. Truly. It’s so amazing and viby and I enjoyed listening to it all day today during a car ride. I love it. My favorite lines from the song are “I’ve cleaned enough houses to know how to cover up a scene, good thing Este’s sister’s gonna swear she was with me”, “(She was with me, dude)” and “they think she did it, but they just can’t prove it, she thinks I did it, but she just can’t prove it”.

Happiness

Again, this one isn’t one that I’ve listened to too many times. What I do remember from the times that I’ve heard it is that it’s really sad! I definitely will be listening to it a few more times for the next blog, reacting to this one. My favorite line from the song is “There’ll be happiness after you, but there was happiness because of you”.

dorothea

So I haven’t listen to this one as much as well (lmao I really need to work on that, don’t I) but people assume that this song is written from the “’tis the damn season” speaker’s lover. So it sound really cool. I kind of like it so far, but I’ll have to listen to it some more before making up an opinion about it. My favorite lines from the song are “but are you still the same soul I met under the bleachers?” and “you got shiny friends since you left town”.

coney island and ivy

So “coney island”, along with “ivy”, are the songs that I’ve listen to the least. Like, I don’t even have favorite lines or lyrics at the moment- I can’t even remember any! I’ll definitely have to listen to both of them more times before forming any opinion about them.

cowboy like me

I actually kind of expected this one to be similar to the song “betty” from “folklore”, but honestly I don’t really see it now. I need to listen to it more, but I like the storyline and I feel like I’d love this person’s point of view once I get to know them. My favorite line from this song at the moment is “takes one to know one, you’re a cowboy like me”.

long story short

So I actually listen to this one a few more times then the rest of the songs! When I first heard it I thought that this was another song from August’s point of view, because the music at the beginning really reminded me of the music at the beginning of “august”. The lyrics also made sense for it to be true. But Taylor said that there is not song from Betty/James/August’s point of view, so it’s not lol. But either way, I love this song so much, and I can already tell that I will love it even more. My favorite lines from this song at the moment are “long story short, it was a bad time” and “long story short, I survived”.

marjorie

So if you didn’t know, in “folklore” the 13th track was written about Taylor’s grandfather. So the 13th track in “evermore” is written about her grandmother. Honestly, this song hit really hard, it’s so beautiful and yet sad. It made me think a lot about my grandparents and my relationship with them. I love it, and will probably love it even more in the future. My favorite lines are “never be so politΠ΅, you forget your power. NevΠ΅r wield such power, you forget to be polite” and “I should’ve asked you questions”.

closure and evermore

So with both of these songs- I haven’t really decided what I think about them, I’ll have to listen to them over and over again. “closure” is sad, and relatable. “evermore” is also kind of sad I think, though I only listen to it once. It was weird for me hearing another Taylor and Bon Iver song, though it’s probably only because I’m not used to it yet. I currently don’t have favorite lines from either song.

THAT’S IT! This is today’s blog. It’s really long, so I’m super grateful if you choose to read all of it. I came back strong! lmao. But anyway, I really need to go to sleep. So let me know what you thought of the album if you’ve listened to it! What are your favorite songs? I hope that you’re taking a good care of yourself. See you tomorrow, hopefully!

Folklore- The Long Pond Studio Sessions Review

Hello world, and welcome to blogmas day three!

Let me start off the blog as I usually do- how are you today? How are you feeling, how did your day went by? Anything new? Something really awesome happened to me yesterday- if you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’d know that I worked through almost all of august, trying to save money for a record player. Well even though I’ve earned enough money, I wasn’t able to go and buy it because of covid-19. Until now. Yesterday my mum just asked me randomly if I’d like to and get it, as the stores just opened about two weeks ago. I was like “AH, okay!” and so I did!! It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve even seen, and it’s currently sitting on top of my bookcase. Before buying the record player I bought online a record of Taylor Swift’s 7th album, “Lover”, and played it on my new record player while writing yesterday’s blog.

Speaking of Taylor Swift, I kind of think that we should get right into today’s blog. So, in case you didn’t know, during July 2020 Taylor released her 8th studio album, “folklore”. It’s incredible and amazing and you should definitely check it out. Probably my favorite of her albums so far. But well, usually when releasing an album, Taylor does this thing called “secret sessions”, where she invites some fans to her house, play the new album for them, tell them stuff about the songs… Last year she even did the Lover’s Lounge on YouTube. Since this year she was unable to do any of that, she teamed up with Disney+ and together they released the Long Pond Studio sessions- a film on Disney+ in which Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner play the entire album, and talk about the songs and the meaning behind them. Justin Vernon, aka Bon Iver also joins them to play “exile”. As a massive fan of Taylor’s work and especially of “folklore”, I obviously watch the whole thing, and here’s my review πŸ™‚

So to start off, I LOVED the whole vibe of the film. It was very cozy, and I loved how every interview of every song was in a different location. The music was amazing, as it really stayed true to the original recording of the songs, but yet somehow it was different, in a very good way. I loved the extra fun facts and details about the songs that we got to learn while watching the film.

So the album starts off with “the 1”, which in the way that I see it, is talking about a good relationship that ended long ago. The writer is reviewing the relationship after being over it, saying “it would’ve been fun if you would’ve been the one” (or at least that’s how I see it, Taylor didn’t really go into details in that one). Honestly, even though it’s a great song, and I’ve listened to it so many times I could sing it to you in my sleep, it isn’t my favorite. Again, Taylor didn’t go into too many details with that one, but the performance was amazing. Same goes to “the last great american dynasty”, Taylor did say a bit more about this one, but it isn’t really my favorite so even though I sang along while watching, I wasn’t as interested in it as I was in the next song.

If you listen to the album you probably know that there’s a love triangle- instead of writing about her life, in a few of her songs Taylor writes about fictional people, a fictional love triangle, actually. “cardigan”, the second track in the album, is from Betty’s point of view. Betty is a girl, around the age of seventeen, who was cheated on by her boyfriend, James. The song “betty” is from James’ point of view- he’s kind of apologizing about his actions. The song “august” is from the other woman’s point of view. She’s reviewing and going over what she thought she had with James. According to Taylor, the song “cardigan” takes place about 20-30 years after that summer, when James cheated. Even though he treated her badly, Betty ends up forgiving him and making their relationship work.

In the song “Betty”, James explains how he didn’t know better, as he was only seventeen (“I’m only seventeen, I don’t know anything”). In “cardigan” however, Betty says that SHE knew better (“But I knew you…”). I really love how the songs are connected in so many ways, I wish I had time and space to talk to you about all of them. But, back to the film- Taylor said that it was her boyfriend, Joe, that wrote the chorus to “betty”, which I thought was so cool! It was also cool knowing that James and Betty end up together.

Then, Taylor went on and talked about “august”. “august” is actually my favorite song off the album, and it also ended up being “my song of the year” in Spotify. I’ve listened to it about 344 times (holy….!!). So I got super excited when Taylor talked about it, that I almost cried. Taylor explained how there isn’t such a thing as “the other woman”. August, just like anyone else, was a girl who wanted to be loved. She thought that she and James had something real, and is broken to know that they didn’t. That made me really sad, because I was like “yup, same”. I loved the explanation, and hearing the live version of the song afterwards made me extremely happy.

Two songs that I ended up loving more after seeing Taylor talking about them in the film were “this is me trying” and “peace”. Especially “this is me trying”. Taylor said that usually, in school, we get this little pat on the back every time we get a good grade, etc. But in “real life”, it is a little bit “harder” (I guess) getting that positive attention. Sometimes we’ll be going through so much stuff, and no one will know. But even staying here, even holding on to what we have is trying, it is still making an effort. Hearing that made me lowkey sad, but also it gave a whole new meaning to the song for me, which I loved. In “peace”, it was actually Aaron Dessner who made me change my mind about the song. The song is about kind of asking someone, “will you still be with me, even if I could never give you peace?”. Aaron talked about having depression, and how that effected his relationships in the past. How being unstable in that way made it harder to be with him. That literally made me cry- I loved that. I love how Taylor wrote this mostly about the fame (could be wrong about that but hang on) and how Aaron was able to take it to a different place, one where many people could relate to.

Seeing Taylor talking about “illicit affairs” made me think a lot too. I took it to a different place though- the line “You taught me a secret language I can’t speak with anyone else” made me think about something different then an affair. In every relationship, friendship or any type of communication you have with anyone- you can almost never have the same thing, the same energy and chemistry with someone else. This song made me think about previous friendship breakup and about people that are no longer in my life.

Wow I’ve been typing for some time now! I really need to put this blog out in like three minutes lol. So I think that I’ll stop here for now. These are my main points that I took from the film. Honestly, this review turned into me talking about “folklore” more then me reviewing. But alas, it is what it is.

I hope that you enjoyed reading this blog, and that if you’re a fan of “folklore” I’ve given you some things to think about :)) Thank you for joining me for blogmas day #3! Stick around if you’d like to read some of my previous blogs, and feel free to follow in order to read the next blogs in my “blogmas” series. Take care of yourself, drink water and wear a mask if you’re going outside.
