My Thoughts on Taylor Swift’s “evermore” πŸ‚

Hello world!

How have you all been. I’ve been good, I’ve taken the second dose of the vaccine a few days ago, and my shoulder is completely numb. But I’m good! I also lowkey realized that my blog basically became a baking blog or something, so expect some random stories and stuff, I really missed writing those type of blogs! But anyways. Taylor Swift’s 9th studio album, evermore, came out more then a month ago. When it came out I wrote a blog of my first impression of it, and in that blog I said that in one month I’d write my thoughts on it after listening to it more thoroughly. And here it is! Let me know what you think about the album, and if you agree with my opinions of it.

willow

willow is the first track on the album. When I first heard it, and I wasn’t too familiar with the album, it used to be one of my favorites. Now? not so much. It’s good, I love it and know it by heart and would die to be able to scream the words in a concert some day, but I feel like I’ve heard it way too many times on all kinds of different apps that it’s just not my favorite. It’s usually what happens to singles from all albums, but it didn’t happened to me with cardigan, the single from her 8th studio album, folklore. To conclude, love it, but isn’t my favorite. My favorite line from the song is “wreck my plans, that’s my man”.

champagne problems

OMG LOVE LOVE LOVE. From the very beginning this one was a favorite, but it just keep getting better and better. I love this song so much, and even though it’s lyrically sad, for some reason I keep finding myself screaming and singing this song incredibly loudly in front of my mirror(ball). I love it! So so much. There’s nothing else to add except for that lmao. My favorite line from the song is the entire bridge, which is amazing, but especially the part where she says “what a shame she’s fucked in the head”. Obviously.

gold rush

This song is so incredible, and again, just like champagne problems, it just keeps getting better. It’s so satisfying for some reason? Like I feel like it’s the perfect song to ice skate to or to dance to. It’s just so nice! I love it. My favorite part is when she says “with your hair falling into place like dominos”.

’tis the damn season

When I first heard ’tis the damn season I wasn’t sure that I really liked it, I thought that it was okay-ish. But now I really like it! The more I listen to it, the better it gets. I definitely need to keep on playing it in order to get used to it πŸ™‚ My favorite lines are “but if it’s okay with you, it’s okay with me” and “but if it’s all the same to you, it’s the same to me”.

tolerate it

This is track number five, therefore it’s quite emotional and deep. I love tolerate it, but it’s also a “skip” for me in a way. Even though I love the music and the lyrics, it’s sometimes a bit heavy if you know what I mean. I think that this is a really relatable song, and in a way, we all have someone who “tolerates” us. Someone who doesn’t give us the same love and energy we give them. So, even though this song is so freaking beautiful, I often skip it when listening to the album as it’s really emotional and deep. My favorite lines from this song are “use my best colors for your portrait”, “I know my love should be celebrated… but you tolerate it” and “If it’s all in my head, tell me now”.

no body, no crime (feat. HAIM)

OH MY GOSH I LOVE THIS SONG. From the very first time that I heard it, and until today, I still feel the same- this song is freaking incredible. I love true crime, I love Taylor Swift… This is definitely a win for me! I really love HAIM’s voices as well, they’re so talented. I love listening to this song, and when I do I feel like a badass. My favorite part is the whole song, but if I had to choose just a few lines they’ll be: “that ain’t my Merlot on his mouth, that ain’t my jewelry on our joint account”, “she was with me, dude”, “good thing his mistress took out a big life insurance policy”, and “they think she did it, but they just can’t prove it, she thinks I did it, but she just can’t prove it”.

happiness

This song is another kind of a skip for me… Unlike tolerate it, I just don’t feel too connected or feel like I relate to this song too much. So it just became a sad song, one that I can’t relate to. So I usually skip it (still though I know it by heart and all lmao). My favorite lines are: “honey, when I’m above the trees, I see this for what it is”, “tell me, when did your winning smile begin to look like a smirk?”, and “all you want from me now is the green light of forgiveness… You haven’t met the new me yet, and I think she’ll give you that”.

dorothea

HEY HEY DOROTHEA lol I love this song so much! I remember not 100% understanding this song at first, but honestly I don’t think that I’ll ever fully understand any song. However, I love this song quite a lot, and feel like I could be a good friend of the speaker and their lover. I love the lyrics as well as the music and sounds, and it all really is quite magical in my opinion. It also reminds me of myself and my friend, for some reason. My favorite lines are: “and I got nothing but well wishes for ya”, “the stars in your eyes shined brighter in Tupelo”, “you’rΠ΅ a queen sellin’ dreams, sellin’ makeup and magazines, from you, I’d buy anything” and “but are you still the same soul I met under the bleachers? Well, I guess I’ll never know, and you’ll go on with the show”.

coney island (feat. The National)

Okay okay hear me out… I actually don’t love this song, and for a long time I used to always skip it and quite disliked it. HOWEVER, the more that I actually listen to it, the better it gets? I’m slowly learning to like and appreciate this song. I currently still don’t have favorite lines, as I truly used to skip this one lmao.

ivy

I never skipped this one, but it’s quite far near the end so I didn’t get to hear it as much when listening to the whole album- I never reached that far into the album. However I love it a lot and try my hardest to listen to it more and more. I like the music and lyrics quite a lot though! πŸ™‚ My favorite lines from this song are “oh, goddamn”, “my pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand, taking mine, but it’s been promised to another”, and “it’s the goddamn fight of my life, and you started it”.

cowboy like me

Oh my god I love this song so much ahhh it reminds me of Jess Mariano from Gilmore Girls. It’s so good!! I feel super ~mysterious~ while listening to it. I love the lyrics so much as well as the music and Taylor’s voice in this one. My favorite lines are: “and you asked me to dance but I said, “Dancin’ is a dangerous game””, “I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve”, “you had some tricks up your sleeve”, “now you hang from my lips like the Gardens of Babylon, with your boots beneath my bed, forever is the sweetest con “. (I just looked up what “Gardens of Babylon” meant… guess who’s tearing up in the middle of her biology class).

long story short

wowow love this song so much! Like I said last time, at first I thought that this was another song from August’s point of view, but it probably isn’t. Either way, I get Lover/reputation vibes from this song! It’s super fun and happy and I truly love it. I find this song quite loud, yet soft in a way. ANYWAYS here are my favorite lines: “actually, I always felt I must look better in the rear view”, “and we live in peace, but if someone comes at us, this time, I’m ready”, “no more keepin’ score, now I just keep you warm”, “past me, I wanna tell you not to get lost in these petty things”, “and he feels like home, if the shoe fits, walk in it everywhere you go” and lastly, “long story short, I survived”.

marjorie

This is such a sad song. In her eighth studio album, folklore, the 13th track is about Taylor’s grandfather. So in evermore, Taylor decided to dedicate her 13th track to her grandmother, Marjorie. This song is super sad, and hits hard. I honestly sometimes skip it as well, just because of how sad it is. My favorite part is when Taylor says “and if I didn’t know better, I’d think you were singing to me now” and then you can hear old recording of Taylor’s grandmother singing (she used to be on opera singer). This is super sad, and touching. This song gives me the chills every single time I listen to it. I would love it if Taylor Nation would restock the evermore vinyl on her store, because this would probably be the most emotional song to here played on a record player.

closure

When I first heard closure I used to laugh, because at the beginning it sounds like Taylor is playing around in her kitchen, making the sounds with her pots and pans. However, I’m a dedicated swiftie and I listened to it over and over and over again until I got used to it. Now I actually love it, and appreciate it for what it is! Yes, this obviously isn’t my favorite song, but it’s not bad. I like it πŸ™‚ My favorite lines from the songs are: “yes, I got your letter, yes, I’m doing better”, and “I’m fine with my spite, and my tears, and my beers and my candles”.

evermore (feat. Bon Iver)

Since this is the last song, I rarely get to hear it when I’m listening to the whole album. And honestly I’m not sure what I think of this one. I like it, but not a lot. I mean, after loving exile to death, I expected something a bit different knowing Taylor and Bon Iver’s voice dynamic. I’m still getting used to hearing Taylor singing the lower part, and Bon Iver singing the higher! It’s a great song though, and overall I really like it. My favorite lines from the song are: “I rewind thΠ΅ tape, but all it does is pause” and “gray November, I’ve been down since July”.

Other than that, Taylor also recently released the deluxe version, which has to bonus tracks on it. I still don’t know the tracks well enough in order to give an opinion on it, so I guess that I’ll wait with that! Hope that that’s okay with you πŸ™‚

But yeah, other than that I’m finished! I hope that you enjoyed reading my blog. Thank you for choosing to do so! I really appreciate that. Love you always, take a good care of your physical and mental health. Don’t forget to drink tons of water! See you next time.

My Favorite albums- 2020

Hello world, and welcome to blogmas day fifteen!

“Cause when you’re fifteen….” Hey guys! hello again. I hope that you’re all doing well. As 2021 is getting closer, I decided to write a blog in which I introduce you to some of my favorite albums from this current year. I believe that music can be quite intimate, as we usually listen to stuff that we relate to in some kind of way. I mean, you can tell a lot about a person by listening to their favorite songs. So I guess that in today’s post you’ll get to know me better, in that way! Let me know if you like any of these albums in the comments- I’d love to be your friend, and it’ll be cool if we like the same stuff! If not, then let me know what are some of your favorite albums, as I’d like to get to know you guys better as well πŸ™‚

Taylor Swift

okay so I’m sure that I made it pretty clear in the past that I’m a swiftie. Actually, Taylor ended up being my favorite artist on Spotify. I think that I will just talk about all of her favorite albums of mine this year together. So the Taylor Swift album that were my favorite this year were folklore, of course, reputation and Speak Now. I have listened to all of her albums, but these ones were my favorite.

In folklore, which is maybe (I can’t decide) my favorite album of hers, my favorite song is august. It ended up being my most listen-to song. Honestly, it’s so cute and relatable πŸ₯Ί I love everything about it. I also like the songs mirrorball, peace, the lakes and betty. Though they all are my favorite, there are no skips on this album. In reputation I’ve mostly listened to Don’t Blame Me, I Did Something Bad, Dancing With Our Hands Tied, Delicate and …Ready For It? (once again though, I love them all). I like how folklore makes you feel like an old woman drinking tea by an open window, while reputation makes you feel like a young, evil queen dancing in the rain.

In Speak Now, my favorite songs are (and were this year) Speak Now, Dear John, Better Than Revenge and Long Live. I’ve only lately started to listen to Taylor’s older albums, and I can’t say that I’m disappointed. The vibes this album gives me is a young girl who just finished high school talking about her experiences within it. And yup, that’s just where I am in life, so maybe that’s why I feel like I can relate to her older songs, and this album especially.

Harry Styles

Once again, as I’ve been listening to both of Harry’s albums, I’ll talk about them together πŸ™‚ I’ve always knew who Harry was, and I kind of liked One Direction back in the day, but it was only this year that I’ve actually started to really listen and like his songs and albums.

In Harry Styles, his self-titled album, my favorite songs this year were Sign Of The Times, Two ghosts, Sweet Creature and Kiwi. I feel like this album can be divided to two- some of the songs make you feel like a deep, lonely person who’s walking outside quietly on an empty street. The other part makes you feel like a badass, lead singer in a rock band. Or at least that’s what I think.

Fine Line is a bit harder to divide, as each song is really different with a different vibe. You can sense some songs that were written about a break up- some happier, and some sadder. There are songs about love, self acceptance… Watermelon sugar… you know. All the feels. My favorite songs from the album this year were Golden, Cherry, Falling, She and Treat People With Kindness. But again, no skips. Love this album to the moon and the Saturn.

Spirit Orb- Chloe Moriondo

This is actually an EP, and not an album, but I definitely listened to this one a lot so I decided to share. I’m not gonna tell you my favorite songs off this EP, as there are only four songs, but I will say how awesome they all are. I love how each song is so very different from the other, but yet somehow they all give the same vibe and feeling. I relate to literally every single song, so I feel understood when listening to this EP. I also play the ukulele, so I love to play and sing along to the songs! This EP is awesome, and I would for sure recommend it to literally anyone, but especially to the younger people who feel alone in their world.

the masquerade- mxmtoon

Haven’t listened to this one in some time, but it’s so nice and great. Just like Chloe’s EP, this album was one that I’ve listen to during the beginning of the year mostly, but I felt super understood while doing so. My favorite songs from this album are probably unspoken words, suffice, blame game, high & dry, my ted talk and dream of you (almost all of them oops. I truly love everything, those are just the ones that I’ve listened to non-stop). Honestly I feel like Maia literally wrote these songs about me. I relate to every single one! You should definitely check the masquerade now if you enjoy soft, bedroom pop. It’s really so good.

And that’s it for today’s blog!

I don’t really know what else to add. Those were my most listened to albums! I also loved Ariana Grande’s new album, but I haven’t included it in the blog as I didn’t listen to it as much. But yes πŸ™‚ Thank you so much for reading my post, I truly appreciate that. Stick around to read previous posts if you’d like, and follow for future #blogmas posts! Let me know what are your favorite albums in the comments! Take care of yourself, and make sure to drink a ton of water and eat! You deserve it. Love you <33 See you tomorrow!

Folklore- The Long Pond Studio Sessions Review

Hello world, and welcome to blogmas day three!

Let me start off the blog as I usually do- how are you today? How are you feeling, how did your day went by? Anything new? Something really awesome happened to me yesterday- if you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’d know that I worked through almost all of august, trying to save money for a record player. Well even though I’ve earned enough money, I wasn’t able to go and buy it because of covid-19. Until now. Yesterday my mum just asked me randomly if I’d like to and get it, as the stores just opened about two weeks ago. I was like “AH, okay!” and so I did!! It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve even seen, and it’s currently sitting on top of my bookcase. Before buying the record player I bought online a record of Taylor Swift’s 7th album, “Lover”, and played it on my new record player while writing yesterday’s blog.

Speaking of Taylor Swift, I kind of think that we should get right into today’s blog. So, in case you didn’t know, during July 2020 Taylor released her 8th studio album, “folklore”. It’s incredible and amazing and you should definitely check it out. Probably my favorite of her albums so far. But well, usually when releasing an album, Taylor does this thing called “secret sessions”, where she invites some fans to her house, play the new album for them, tell them stuff about the songs… Last year she even did the Lover’s Lounge on YouTube. Since this year she was unable to do any of that, she teamed up with Disney+ and together they released the Long Pond Studio sessions- a film on Disney+ in which Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner play the entire album, and talk about the songs and the meaning behind them. Justin Vernon, aka Bon Iver also joins them to play “exile”. As a massive fan of Taylor’s work and especially of “folklore”, I obviously watch the whole thing, and here’s my review πŸ™‚

So to start off, I LOVED the whole vibe of the film. It was very cozy, and I loved how every interview of every song was in a different location. The music was amazing, as it really stayed true to the original recording of the songs, but yet somehow it was different, in a very good way. I loved the extra fun facts and details about the songs that we got to learn while watching the film.

So the album starts off with “the 1”, which in the way that I see it, is talking about a good relationship that ended long ago. The writer is reviewing the relationship after being over it, saying “it would’ve been fun if you would’ve been the one” (or at least that’s how I see it, Taylor didn’t really go into details in that one). Honestly, even though it’s a great song, and I’ve listened to it so many times I could sing it to you in my sleep, it isn’t my favorite. Again, Taylor didn’t go into too many details with that one, but the performance was amazing. Same goes to “the last great american dynasty”, Taylor did say a bit more about this one, but it isn’t really my favorite so even though I sang along while watching, I wasn’t as interested in it as I was in the next song.

If you listen to the album you probably know that there’s a love triangle- instead of writing about her life, in a few of her songs Taylor writes about fictional people, a fictional love triangle, actually. “cardigan”, the second track in the album, is from Betty’s point of view. Betty is a girl, around the age of seventeen, who was cheated on by her boyfriend, James. The song “betty” is from James’ point of view- he’s kind of apologizing about his actions. The song “august” is from the other woman’s point of view. She’s reviewing and going over what she thought she had with James. According to Taylor, the song “cardigan” takes place about 20-30 years after that summer, when James cheated. Even though he treated her badly, Betty ends up forgiving him and making their relationship work.

In the song “Betty”, James explains how he didn’t know better, as he was only seventeen (“I’m only seventeen, I don’t know anything”). In “cardigan” however, Betty says that SHE knew better (“But I knew you…”). I really love how the songs are connected in so many ways, I wish I had time and space to talk to you about all of them. But, back to the film- Taylor said that it was her boyfriend, Joe, that wrote the chorus to “betty”, which I thought was so cool! It was also cool knowing that James and Betty end up together.

Then, Taylor went on and talked about “august”. “august” is actually my favorite song off the album, and it also ended up being “my song of the year” in Spotify. I’ve listened to it about 344 times (holy….!!). So I got super excited when Taylor talked about it, that I almost cried. Taylor explained how there isn’t such a thing as “the other woman”. August, just like anyone else, was a girl who wanted to be loved. She thought that she and James had something real, and is broken to know that they didn’t. That made me really sad, because I was like “yup, same”. I loved the explanation, and hearing the live version of the song afterwards made me extremely happy.

Two songs that I ended up loving more after seeing Taylor talking about them in the film were “this is me trying” and “peace”. Especially “this is me trying”. Taylor said that usually, in school, we get this little pat on the back every time we get a good grade, etc. But in “real life”, it is a little bit “harder” (I guess) getting that positive attention. Sometimes we’ll be going through so much stuff, and no one will know. But even staying here, even holding on to what we have is trying, it is still making an effort. Hearing that made me lowkey sad, but also it gave a whole new meaning to the song for me, which I loved. In “peace”, it was actually Aaron Dessner who made me change my mind about the song. The song is about kind of asking someone, “will you still be with me, even if I could never give you peace?”. Aaron talked about having depression, and how that effected his relationships in the past. How being unstable in that way made it harder to be with him. That literally made me cry- I loved that. I love how Taylor wrote this mostly about the fame (could be wrong about that but hang on) and how Aaron was able to take it to a different place, one where many people could relate to.

Seeing Taylor talking about “illicit affairs” made me think a lot too. I took it to a different place though- the line “You taught me a secret language I can’t speak with anyone else” made me think about something different then an affair. In every relationship, friendship or any type of communication you have with anyone- you can almost never have the same thing, the same energy and chemistry with someone else. This song made me think about previous friendship breakup and about people that are no longer in my life.

Wow I’ve been typing for some time now! I really need to put this blog out in like three minutes lol. So I think that I’ll stop here for now. These are my main points that I took from the film. Honestly, this review turned into me talking about “folklore” more then me reviewing. But alas, it is what it is.

I hope that you enjoyed reading this blog, and that if you’re a fan of “folklore” I’ve given you some things to think about :)) Thank you for joining me for blogmas day #3! Stick around if you’d like to read some of my previous blogs, and feel free to follow in order to read the next blogs in my “blogmas” series. Take care of yourself, drink water and wear a mask if you’re going outside.
